Joey made the move from Atlanta to Charlotte in 2002, ready for a new city and a new place to channel his seemingly endless creative energy. Two years later, he graduated from the Aveda Institute and joined a boutique salon, where he quickly became a go-to stylist for Charlotte’s local on-air talent. Never one to sit still for long, Joey soon ventured out on his own, opening J.Studio, a high-end boutique salon in Charlotte’s South End. The studio caught the attention of the local Fox affiliate, which contracted J.Studio to style its on-air talent—a relationship that eventually moved Joey from behind the scenes to in front of the camera, regularly sitting in as co-host of the evening entertainment show Fox News Edge. His creative reach continued to grow as Fashion Editor for Uptown Magazine, with additional contributions to Elevate and SEEN. And hair and fashion are only part of the story. Joey is also a designer, painter, carpenter, and enthusiastic chef—basically, if it involves creating, building, styling, or making something beautiful (or delicious), he’s probably already tried it. A true Renaissance man with an insatiable curiosity, Joey is happiest when there’s a new idea to chase and something creative to dive into.
Joey and Scott met in April, 2003, and have been together ever since. They not only came together as best friends and eventually husbands, but as creative partners as well, designing and opening multiple businesses together and remodeling multiple homes and commercial properties. Both are passionate about design, food, travel, gardening and developed, opened and sold two popular Charlotte social and hangout spots, the NoDa Company Store and the Canteen at Camp North End. In 2025 they won the Netflix game-show “What’s in the Box?”, and have been traveling the world ever since with their pup, Lottie Dottie Peppercorn.
Scott is a true Charlotte native, born and raised in a city he’s had a front-row seat to watching transform over the past five decades. His only real departure was a four-year stint at Appalachian State University, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Political Science before returning home. That lifelong connection to the city sparked a passion for its history, neighborhoods, architecture, and ever-changing skyline. Over the years, Scott has shared that perspective through writing for various local publications on Charlotte’s neighborhoods, development, history, and the characters and stories that make the city what it is. A broker and real estate professional since 1992, he’s also lent his expertise to local television and news stories covering real estate and development. Equal parts history buff, storyteller, real estate guy, and endlessly curious observer, Scott loves understanding not just where a place is going, but how it got there—and he usually has a story about it.
Rounding out the family is Charlotte Dorothy Peppercorn, a.k.a. Lottie Dottie. our beloved pup, adventure companion, and occasional boss of the entire operation. Lottie has a personality all her own, often more like a cat than a dog, happily weaving between your legs, rubbing against you as she passes, or spending long afternoons perched in the front window keeping a very close eye on the neighborhood. And an even closer eye on the squirrels battling over acorns. When she’s not napping or supervising from her favorite window, Lottie is always ready for an adventure. She loves hiking, running, digging in the sand, exploring new places, and investigating every interesting scent along the way. Whether she’s hitting the trail, joining us on a road trip, or simply making herself comfortable wherever we land, Lottie brings her own special mix of curiosity, enthusiasm, and lovable mischief to the family.
